STAY CURIOUS
Unexpected twists in life – the ones that feel like chaos served cold (the state of your country or community, work, personal, etc) – may feel exhausting or exasperating, BUT these times are also times to grow.
Cut to the San Pedro cactus. It often blooms at night, partly to conserve energy (little water + blaring daylight = half-ass blooms). I’ve latched on to this idea lately: of needing to bloom in the dark. Of conserving energy, targeting only what you need that serves you being your best self, and reign in energy being spent with no returns. Twisty times can be perfect times to lay low, regroup, and conserve energy for your next big blossom.
As I learned more about the San Pedro cactus, I came across these fun facts, making it seem less-than-coincidental that this was the plant that revealed itself to me in my studies on growing in dark times::
- The name “San Pedro” comes from Christian mythology, where Saint Peter holds the keys to the gates of heaven. In Andean tradition, the San Pedro cactus is believed to hold the key to these heavenly gates. It is considered a highly sacred plant where it grows in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Ecuador.
- San Pedro is used as a sacred medicine to treat spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental conditions.
- San Pedro is described as having a grandfather-like spirit. It is considered a compassionate and wise teacher that helps us live in balance and harmony. Through San Pedro, one can learn to respect and honor all living beings. The plant is believed to connect us to the natural energies of Pachamama (Mother Earth) and clear our chakras, especially our heart chakras.
Give San Pedro a place in your home to remind you to stay sacred with your energy.
